Norma Fisher

Norma Fisher started her music career at the Guildhall School of Music as a student of Sidney Harrison. At the age of 14 she came to the attention of the celebrated Greek pianist Gina Bachauer who took a great interest in her career. She introduced Norma to the distinguished Hungarian teacher Ilona Kabos, with whom she studied at one time. Norma Fisher was studying French music under the leadership of Jacques Fevrier in Paris. 

     She has a great success in the Busoni International Piano Competition, and in 1963, when she shared the much-coveted Piano Prize in the Harriet Cohen International Music Awards with Vladimir Ashkenazi, her name was world-famous. The same year she made her debut at the programs in the Royal Albert Hall and became a favourite soloist with leading British orchestras.

      Norma Fisher is known for her repertoire ranges from Scarlatti to contemporary composers. This versatility extends to chamber music, which she plays with leading musicians throughout Europe.

      She has been a guest at the International Musician’s Seminar at Prussia Cove, and has held the position of Professor of Piano at the annual International Summer Academy in Lenk (Switzerland). She is an Associate Board Member of the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition in Palm Desert, California, and regularly jury member of the Competition. She was a jury member of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in Salt Lake City, USA, (she was re-invited in 1993 as Chairman of the Jury), Sydney IPC (Australia), Newport IPC, (Wales), Czech Republic IPC, Platform Anglo-Dutch. In 1997 she was jury member of the II International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz. Her reputation as a teacher is widely established and she has been invited to give master classes in Britain, Switzerland, Ireland, Canada and the USA. In 1998 Norma Fisher took part in Performance Mastery Classes, her Master-class was brilliant event in artistic life of Kyiv.

     Now Norma Fisher is Artistic Director of London Master-classes whose courses attract major talents from around the world to work intensively with top performers-teachers in London.
