Yang Jun

Yang Jun is a
well-known pianist and teacher in China. He was a student of Professor Zheng
Liqin, Professor Zhu Gongyi and Professor Igor Hemenisky. In 1960, Yang won the
first prize in the Central Conservatory of Music Piano Competition. He joined
the Conservatory as a teaching staff after his graduation, serving as a
Teaching Assistant, Lecturer, Assistant Professor and Professor. He is
currently the Head of Piano Department of the Central Conservatory of Music in
Beijing.
From 1983-85, Yang Jun was teaching at the
Sydney Music Conservatory, Australia as part of a cultural exchange
program. While there, he visited many
major cities, giving numerous concerts. His performances at the Sydney Opera
House were broadcast live over the ABC TV station.
In China, Yang has collaborated with some of
the best local orchestras performing concertos by Mozart and Rakhmaninov, as
well as the Yellow River Concerto amongst others. He has held solo recitals in
Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Kunming and Hong Kong. Many of Yang’s performances
have been recorded into phonograph records, cassettes and CDs by Central
Recording Studio of China.
Over the years, Professor Yang Jun has produced
students who have won top prizes in local and international piano competitions,
including 5 first-prize winners in China National Piano Competitions and 3rd
prize winner in XII Tchaikovsky International Competition, 2002. He has served
as a judge on many occasions in international piano competitions in Japan,
South Africa, the USA, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. Yang has also conducted
lectures in Taiwan, Finland, Austria, and had been invited as a special guest
to attend the Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow and the
Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw.
