Rolf Plagge

Mr. Plagge was born in 1959, in Westerstede, North-West Germany. As a schoolboy he learned piano in Hamburg from famous teachers like Peter –Yorgen Hofer, later entering the class of Vitaliy Margulis in Fleiburg. In 1981 he studed piano in the PaulBadura-Skoda School in Vienna and in 1983 he joined the piano class led by Gyorgi Szandor of the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. In 1991 he graduated from the Hannover Musikhochschule class of Karlheinz Kaemerling.
Rolf Plagge is the winner of many German and International competitions.
He was five-time winner of the Hamburg Steinway Competitions and in 1979 he won
his first international competition in Senegal, and soon afterwards prizes at
the Busoni competition in Bozen (1980), ARD Competition in Muenchen (1981), the
Gina Bachauer Competition in Salt Lake City (1987), the Concours Reine
Elisabeth in Brussels (1987). He became the first German pianists won the
Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition in 1990. Since 1991 Mr.Plagge heads the Piano
Class at the Salzburg Mazarteum.
He
performs on tours annually in different parts of the world, especially to South
America, where he regularly performs piano recitals and conducts master
classes.
His
latest CDs by ES-DUR contain such rarities as Hans-Werner Henze 2nd
Piano Concerto and Georg Benda’s 2nd Piano Concerto.
He
plans to record the works by Pfitzner, Milhaud, Satie with the NDR Symphony
Orchestra’s concertmaster Katarina Rabus.
Since
1995 MUSICAPHON has been distributing his recording of chamber music including
the music of Ludwig Spohr with the “Pallas-Trio”.
